Your video is decoded and re-encoded frame by frame right in your browser, so nothing is uploaded and you don’t need an account. It works with the video formats your browser can play, like MP4 (H.264) and WebM.

Frequently asked questions

Is my video uploaded to a server?+

No. The video is read and converted entirely in your browser using the built-in video decoder and a GIF encoder — it never leaves your device.

Why is my GIF file large?+

GIFs store every frame, so length, frame rate, and size all add up fast. For a smaller file, trim the duration, lower the frame rate, or reduce the width.

Which video formats work?+

Any format your browser can play — MP4 (H.264) and WebM work almost everywhere. Some MOV/HEVC files may not decode in every browser; convert to MP4 first if needed.

How long can the clip be?+

You can pick any start and duration, but GIFs are best kept short. Very long selections are sampled down to a fixed number of frames spread across the whole clip, so the motion just gets choppier rather than cut off — lower the FPS or duration for smoother playback.

What frame rate and width can I choose?+

Frame rate is 8, 10, 12, or 15 fps, and width is 240, 320, 480 pixels, or Original. Output is scaled to fit within 640px on the longest side to keep encoding fast, so very large sources are shrunk automatically.
