How do I calculate a tip?+
Enter the bill amount, then tap one of the preset percentages or drag the slider. The calculator multiplies the bill by your chosen percentage for the tip and adds it to the bill for the total — both update live, so you can compare a 15% and a 20% tip just by tapping between them.
How do I split the bill between people?+
Type the number of people into the "Split between" field. The tool divides the total (bill plus tip) evenly and shows the per-person amount below; that line only appears once you set two or more people.
How much should I tip?+
In the US, 15–20% of the bill is standard for table service, with 18% a common default (it is the preset this tool starts on). Customs vary by country, so adjust to local norms.
Is the tip calculated before or after tax?+
The percentage is applied to whatever bill amount you type in. If you prefer to tip on the pre-tax subtotal, enter that figure as the bill rather than the taxed total.
How does splitting the bill work?+
