About the Date Duration Calculator
Whether you are counting down to a holiday, a deadline, or a trip — or counting how long since a milestone — this tool tells you exactly how much time lies between two dates. The end date defaults to today, so you can leave it as-is to count from any start date to now.

The month-and-day breakdown counts complete months first so short months and leap years come out right. All calculated in your browser.
How to use it
- 1Set the start date. Pick the earlier date (or your event date) in the “Start date” field.

Frequently asked questions
How many days are between two dates?+
Enter both dates above and the calculator counts the exact number of full days between them, accounting for different month lengths and leap years.
How do I count days until an event?+
Put your event date in one field and today (the default end date) in the other. The total days figure is your countdown — the order does not matter.
Does the order of dates matter?+
No. If the end date is earlier than the start date, the calculator swaps them and always shows a positive duration.
What does the years / months / days line mean?+
It breaks the same span into full years, remaining whole months, and leftover days, counting complete months first so end-of-month and short-month cases stay accurate.
Are the start and end dates counted?+
The result is the elapsed time between the two dates. Two dates one day apart read as 1 day, so the earlier date is the starting point rather than a counted day.
